Información adicional:  The goal of the International Solar Thermal Institute (ISTI) is to aid in moving forward the Department of Energy's (DOE) Solar Energy Technology Program (SETP) and it's Building Technologies Program (BTP) by reducing market barriers and promoting market expansion through activities that provide technical, regulatory, institutional, financial, and educational solutions to market transformation barriers with a 2010 deadline. Currently, ISTI provides a recognized solar thermal studies program that is known as a leader in being able to provide an immediate solar thermal workforce. ISTI’s certification delivery and management program collaborates with all stakeholders and state level entities involved, and then provides a customized state level certification for established tradespeople. In addition to supplying the curriculum, ISTI will also manage the certification program for a cost that is considerably less money than if a state were to attempt to develop and perform these duties themselves. Currently, the course provided by ISTI is a 3 day class, with test, that is taught at participating community colleges, trade association continuing education centers, as well as vocational schools, and offers instruction for the established tradesperson or code enforcement officer for entry into the field of solar thermal technologies. The region specific course is a non-branded, unbiased, multimedia based instructional lecture that employs the use of video, lecture, textbooks, class discussion, along with cutting edge industry information. It is constantly evolving based on technological developments, lessons learned, and student feedback. Currently, proposals are being made about it's adaption into a full credit college course to instruct non-trades based students. Versions of this class have been employed in: Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, Canada, as well as Wisconsin, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, North and South Carolina, District of Columbia, and is currently utilized by the State of Maine for contractor certification. ISTI coordinates with local, regional, and statewide economic development strategic plans as well as provides professional development opportunities for educators at institutions that wish to start or improve training and education programs in the field of solar thermal installation. ISTI furnishes curriculum delivery and administration, contractor certification, and "Train the Trainer" support for these institutions, with the ultimate goal of having a large cohesive network of trainers, that will introduce "Nationally Certified" people into the field by utilizing a common training curriculum and certification body. The ISTI certification shall then be used at the state level to certify it's installers. It is recommended that state and utility solar rebate programs be tied to the ISTI certification as it will ensure that taxpayer funding only provides incentives to qualified systems and installers. This is the first of many of the goals that are part of the road map for the future. Others include: regional code implementation, equipment certification, and accurate software for system sizing. The current training course is available with full registration, administration, and student certification features that will be custom built for any of the enrolled teaching facilities.
