Industrial & Building Energy eXprtise
Descripción del curso

The IBEX (Industrial & Building Energy eXpertise) is a comprehensive energy management self paced open learning training program for those wishing to enter the profession. It was recently updated and pilot tested with Centennial College Energy Institute with assistance from the Ontario Power Authority Conservation Fund and Sustainable Resources Management. It addresses the need for trained energy-efficiency specialists in the industrial and building management sectors through the use of self-paced training modules adapted from the Training in Energy Management Through Open Learning (TEMOL) program from the UK Energy Institute. The adapted IBEX program provides students with an understanding of issues such as energy auditing, building controls, energy efficient technologies and the business case for retrofits. Learning is augmented with mentored audits of facilities and a series of workshops and associated webinars providing added personal instruction. An independent website for all participants in the IBEX program www.energymanagementtoronto.com is available as well as many online reference documents and links to energy-related information that is frequently updated. The course is an estimated 260 hours of text-based open learning materials, supplemented by best practice literature from the UK Carbon Trust, Natural Resources Canada, and various other sources. These materials include good practice guides, case studies, new practice guides, and energy conservation case studies. Within the 260 hours of material study there is a mix of activities, including reading and understanding the factual material, carrying out the guided activities, and answering the review and selfassessment questions. The program culminates in a nominally 100 hour energy management project that uses the knowledge gained and reflects the needs of the student. The students energy management project may be eligible for utility incentives as they are mentored by qualified professionals who can work with student and energy cutomers to apply for approriate incentives.
